Molas Lake is the type section of the Molas Formation, which is a red, oxidized soil horizon formed on top of the Mississipian Leadville Limestone. Sea level dropped at the end of the Mississipian. During that time, the limestone was dissolved and caves formed, creating an irregular land surface known as karst.
On the horizon, Euolas, Windom and Sunlight peaks are the fourteeners in the snow covered Needle Mountains
As seen from the Hwy 550.
